Where's that in the specification? [pavement marking]
Specifications and contracts come in all sizes. How many of us read the specification that we think we have seen before? Instead we scan the document, or do we? Does the client really know what he/she wants or is it a case of "just do the marking/remarking?" Recent experience on a number of contracts has indicated that contactors really haven't read the document, assuming it to be the same as all the others that cross their desk, even if it is pointed out that the document is a "special". Application techniques, requirements for works permits, quality system, OHS system and environment system document and materials to be used all fall into the "I didn't know" category and are overlooked. On the other side of the coin, the client must know what he/she wants, and write the tender document accordingly. The paper will examine both sides of the argument and provide some examples.
