TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS WITH PERSONAL INJURY DURING EMERGENCY DRIVING
THIS SPECIALITY WITHIN THE FIELD OF TRAFFIC MEDICINE CALLS FOR ATTENTION FOR ANOTHER REASON. THE VEHICLES OF AN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT MAKE A WELL DEFINED GROUP, THEIR OPERATIONS ARE CLOSELY SUPERVISED AND RECORDED, AND THE TRADITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF EMERGENCY VEHICLES ARE SO ARRANGED AS TO MAKE AN UNPARALLELED TRAFFIC EXPERIMENT: THE SAME DRIVERS IN THE SAME VEHICLES ON THE SAME ROADS WITH THE SAME LOADS OF TRAFFIC, BUT WITH TWO DIFFERENT BEHAVIORS IN TRAFFIC: (1) MOSTLY FOLLOWING THE STREAM, (2) SOMETIMES DRIVING AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. THE PRESENT STUDY DOCUMENTS THE FREQUENCY OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS DURING EMERGENCY DRIVING AND COMPARES IT WITH THAT OF ORDINARY DRIVING. PREVIOUS REPORTS OF RELEVANCE FOR THE SUBJECT WERE SEARCHED FOR IN THE LITERATURE. /AUTHOR/
