About Australia's regions
This booklet provides an accessible introduction to social, economic and environmental statistics for Australia's regions. Information is presented under the following broad themes: population; society; regional economies; housing; transport and communications; education and health; and environmental issues. BITRE has updated this booklet annually since its initial publication in 2003. The 2008 update presents the most recently available data for each topic. It is the most comprehensive update that has been undertaken to date due to the 2006 census. Of the 43 information pages, 37 have been updated. Information from the 2006 Census and material on disability (page 38) have been included for the first time.
