LIGHTING OF TUNNELS
AS HIGHWAY TRAFFIC HAS INCREASED, MORE TUNNELS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED AND BUILT. THIS EXPERIENCE TOGETHER WITH ADDITIONAL RESEARCH HAS PRODUCED GREATLY IMPROVED METHODS IN TUNNEL LIGHTING. THESE RECOMMENDATIONS PREPARED BY THE SUBCOMMITTEE ON LIGHTING OF TUNNELS AND UNDERPASSES OF THE ROADWAY LIGHTING COMMITTEE OF THE ILLUMINATING ENGINEERING SOCIETY ARE ISSUED AS AN INTERIM REPORT TO BE MORE IN ACCORD WITH PRESENT PRACTICE AND RESEARCH, PARTICULARLY IN REGARD TO THE LIGHTING OF THE TUNNEL APPROACH AND ENTRANCE. IN MANY TUNNELS CONSTRUCTED HERE AND ABROAD, THE LIGHTING FAR EXCEEDS THE MINIMUM RECOMMENDATIONS. /JIES/
