ROAD TRAFFIC SIMULATION EMPLOYING A HARDWARE APPROACH PHILOSOPHY AND DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

SIMULATION TECHNIQUES ARE USED FOR SOLVING TRAFFIC PROBLEMS IN MODERN CITIES. SOME APPROACHES ARE MENTIONED AMONG WHICH THE MOST USED ONES ARE THE NUMERICAL AND THE ANALOG. THE NUMERICAL APPROACH CONSISTS ESSENTIALLY IN THE SETUP OF ROUTINES THROUGH WHICH TRAFFIC SITUATIONS CAN BE SIMULATED ON DIGITAL COMPUTERS. THE ANALOG APPROACH CONSISTS ESSENTIALLY IN THE SETUP OF NETWORKS THROUGH WHICH TRAFFIC SITUATIONS CAN BE SIMULATED PHYSICALLY. THE COSTS AND SPEED OF THE ABOVE APPROACHES ARE DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
