Victorian local roads: critical links in the national supply chain: a submission to Infrastructure Australia
This document focuses on the key economic roles of local roads in the Victorian network, such as: 1. Links for industry - agricultural, timber, resource industries (the 'first/last kilometre' in the supply chain) and tourism; 2. Connections to international gateways such as ports and airports; 3. Links in peri-urban areas and other regions that connect new residential areas to employment areas; and 4. Links in industrial growth corridors that connect freight hubs particularly in metropolitan Melbourne and major regional centres. These integrated transport plans address the 'first/last kilometre' of the planning framework, ensuring that the benefits of investments on the national and arterial network flow through to the local network. Equally, targeted investment on the local road network, including bridges, will help drive more productive, reliable and safe outcomes for our industries and communities.
