50 by 50 global fuel economy initiative: making cars 50 per cent more fuel efficient by 2050 worldwide

The Global Fuel Economy Initiative aims specifically to improve the understanding of the potential for improving the fuel efficiency and reducing the CO2 emissions of cars around the world, and providing guidance and support on the development of policies to promote more fuel efficient vehicles. Priorities for the initiative are: 1. develop improved data and analysis of the current situation on fuel economy around the world; 2. work with governments to develop sound policies to encourage fuel economy improvement for vehicles produced and/or sold in their countries; 3. work with stakeholders (such as auto makers) to better understand the potential for fuel economy improvements and solicit their support; 4. support awareness initiatives to provide consumers and decision makers with information on options.
