Evaluation of 2+1 road with cable barriers: final report
This is the final report on the program by the Swedish Road Administration (SRA) to develop alternative 13 metre roads. The program objectives include clarifying the consequences for level-of-service and traffic safety. This report gives an overview of all important facts concerning 2+1 roads with cable barriers. As of January 1, 2008 about 1,800 km of collision-free roads have been opened for traffic in Sweden. In addition there are about 120 km of so called "alternative four-lane roads" (Alt 4L), newly built road segments with a width of 18.5 m and 2.5 m wide medians. This publication documents the results and experiences of the program from 1998 to 2006-2007 when the evaluation ended.
