PARKING STUDIES /IN PORTUGUESE/

A MODEL FOR THE PLANNING OF PARKING LOTS IS PRESENTED. THIS MODEL INCLUDES A SUBMODEL OF LINEAR PROGRAMMING FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF USERS TO DIVERSE PARKING LOTS FOR MAXIMUM USER BENEFIT. AN URBAN AREA MAY HAVE OFF-STREET PARKING AREAS IN USE OR IN CONSTRUCTION, BESIDES PLANNED PARKING LOTS IN FIXED AREAS. THE PROPOSED MODEL ESTABLISHES THE EFFICIENCY OF THE PARKING SYSTEMS IN USE AND PLANNED, TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION PRESENT AND FUTURE ECONOMIC RESOURCES. DIFFERENT PARKING PLANS MAY BE EVALUATED WITH THIS MODEL, WHICH, BESIDES REDUCING BOTTLENECKS AND PARKING COSTS TO A MINIMUM, ESTABLISHES A CRITERION FOR THE BEST POSSIBLE USE OF PRESENT AND FUTURE RESOURCES. /RRI/
