Thinking about rural transport: sustainable rural accessibility: is it really possible?: a 'think-piece'
This paper draws upon practical examples, reported experience and practitioner insight, to demonstrate how sustainable transport measures are being effectively deployed in rural areas. It examines the strengths and weaknesses of the current policy environment in influencing sustainable travel behaviour, and in particular how the accessibility planning agenda is impacting the delivery of a range of sustainable transport measures. The paper goes on to examine different models of public transport provision for rural communities, and the role that Smarter Choices measures are having as part of the transport mix.
