TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYSTEMS: THE MERITS OF SIMPLICITY

A SIMPLIFIED TRAFFIC CONTROLLER DESIGN, DEVELOPED BY THE CITY OF OAKLAND ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT TO CONTROL LANE- OCCUPANCY BY TRAFFIC SIGNALS, IS DESCRIBED. THE EQUIPMENT IS SIMPLE AND LESS EXPENSIVE THAN AN EQUIVALENT CONTROLLER BEING PRESENTLY MARKETED. INDEPENDENT OPERATION OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS AND EQUIPMENT CONTROLLED FOR THE MOST PART BY DETECTORS IN THE STREET ARE CONSIDERED MORE ECONOMICAL AND PRACTICAL.
