SPECIAL RUMBLE SEAL COAT STRIPS FOR TRAFFIC WARNING. FINAL REPORT
AGGREGATES OF SEVERAL TYPES AND GRADATIONS WERE USED WITH BITUMINOUS BINDERS TO CONSTRUCT RUMBLE STRIPS AT NINE RURAL INTERSECTIONS CONTROLLED BY STOP SIGNS. AVERAGE DAILY TRAFFIC RANGED FROM 650 TO 2,700 CARS. CONSTRUCTION IS DESCRIBED AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATED FOR PERIODS UP TO THREE AND ONE-HALF YEARS. THE MOST EFFECTIVE MATERIALS WERE RS-3K BITUMINOUS BINDER WITH COARSE AGGREGATE (3/4-INCH MINUS UNCRUSHED MATERIAL) FOLLOWED BY A LIGHT SECOND COAT OF BITUMEN. /HSL/
