EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES FOR AN URBAN AREA: THE DETROIT DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM. SUMMARY

A STUDY OF THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES IN THE DETROIT AREA IS REPORTED. THE FOLLOWING ARE INVESTIGATED: FREQUENCY OF EMERGENCIES AND TYPES OF INJURIES; REPORTING, TIME DELAY, AND USE OF CITIZEN BAND RADIO; THE SERVICE PROCESS INCLUDING POLICE SERVICE AND FIREMEN SERVING ON RESCUE SQUADS; COMMERCIAL AMBULANCE SERVICES; TRAINING OF AND TREATMENT BY AMBULANCE ATTENDANTS; AND THE NUMBER AND PLACEMENT OF RECOVERY VEHICLES. COST EFFECTIVENESS OF EACH SYSTEM IS PRESENTED. A HELICOPTER DEMONSTRATION IS ANALYZED. /HSL/
