DEVELOPMENT OF A METHODOLOGY FOR EVALUATING ROAD SIGNS

A METHODOLOGY FOR USE IN THE EVALUATION OF SYSTEMS FOR DISPLAYING ROAD SIGN INFORMATION TO DRIVERS IS DEVELOPED. RESEARCH WAS DIVIDED INTO THREE PHASES: (1) THE DEVELOPMENT OF ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES TO RELATE SIGN CHARACTERISTICS OF DRIVING PERFORMANCE; (2) TESTING OF ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES DEVELOPED IN PHASE I; AND (3) ASSESSMENT OF SIGN ON-GOING CHANGES MADE BY THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS USING TECHNIQUES DEVELOPED IN PHASE I AND II. THE METHODOLOGY SHOULD MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO EVALUATE CHANGES OF INTERSTATE AND FREEWAY SIGNING. /AUTHOR/
