Congestion in urban areas: examples of counter-measures

Due to rapid increase in transport demands congestion has become a quite common and a major problem for human mobility. It is a complex phenomenon, influenced by socio-economic, technical, and even human factors. The report presents countermeasures against recurrent congestion on urban roads implemented in various cities according to various perspectives: transport policy, modal shift policy, asset construction, regulatory measures, technical measures dealing with traffic management. From the analysis of these case studies, the report raises recommendations in favour of the implementation of a global transport policy, a modal shift policy and underlines the importance of public transport and non-motorized transport.
