AN EXPERIMENTAL ROUTE GUIDANCE SYSTEM SOFTWARE DESIGN

A COMPUTER ORIENTED TECHNIQUE IS DESCRIBED FOR PREPARING DECODER PROGRAMS FOR THE ROADSIDE DECODERS USED IN THE ELECTRONIC ROUTE GUIDANCE (ERGS) SYSTEM. ALTERNATIVE NETWORK CODING TECHNIQUES AND THE INTERACTION OF ERGS WITH URBAN TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS ARE DESCRIBED. DATA PREPARATION AND DATA PROCESSING ARE DISCUSSED. DATA INPUTS INCLUDE "DRIVER." INSTRUCTION SET AND RULES", "INFORMATION LEAD DISTANCE CRITERION", AND THE "SPECIFICATION OF THE NETWORK INTERSECTIONS, BRANCHES, AND TRAVEL TIMES." DATA PROCESSING CONSIST OF MACHINE MANIPULATION OF THE MANUALLY PREPARED DATA TO PRODUCE ERGS DECODER PROGRAMS IN THE FORM OF PUNCHED PAPER TAPE. THIS WORK PROVIDES A FIRST EFFORT AT THE OBJECTIVE PREPARATION OF DECODER PROGRAMS IN THE FORM OF PUNCHED PAPER TAPE. THIS WORK PROVIDES A FIRST EFFORT AT THE OBJECTIVE PREPARATION OF DECODER PROGRAMS FOR THE OPERATION OF A SMALL EXPERIMENTAL ROUTE GUIDANCE SYSTEM. IN ADDITION IT HAS PROVIDED AN OPPERTUNITY TO SCRUTINIZE EARLIER ROUTE GUIDANCE SYSTEM CONCEPTS AND TO RECOGNIZE SOME OF THE SHORTCOMINGS OF THE PRESENT WORK. /AUTHOR/
