RECOGNIZING THE DRINKING DRIVER

A GROUP OF 1247 HOSPITALIZED ALCOHOLICS WHO OPERATED A MOTOR VEHICLE FROM 1961 TO 1967 WAS EXAMINED. THE STUDY DEMONSTRATES THAT PROBLEM DRINKING DRIVERS ARE FREQUENTLY RATHER YOUNG DRINKERS WHO HAVE A HIGH RATE OF DRIVING CONVICTIONS. SINCE THIS GROUP IS NOT NORMALLY IDENTIFIED AND TREATED AS ALCOHOLICS, THE STUDY DISCUSSES THE POLICY IMPLICATIONS OF THIS FINDING. /AUTHOR/
