THE MICHIGAN ALCOHOLISM SCREENING TEST (MAST)
THE CREATION AND USE ARE EXPLAINED OF THE MICHIGAN ALCOHOLISM SCREENING TEST (MAST) WHICH WAS DEVISED TO PROVIDE A CONSISTANT, QUANTIFIABLE, EASILY ADMINISTERED INTERVIEW INSTRUMENT FOR THE DETECTION OF ALCOHOLISM. MAST CONSISTS OF A SERIES OF 25 QUESTIONS, MANY OF WHICH HAVE BEEN USED PREVIOUSLY BY INVESTIGATORS IN ALCOHOLISM SURVEYS. A DISCUSSION OF THE VARIOUS GROUPS USED TO VALIDATE THE MAST IS PRESENTED ALONG WITH THE USEFULNESS OF SUCH A TEST FOR TESTING ALCOHOLIC TRAFFIC OFFENDERS. TO DATE THE RESULTS OF THE USE OF MAST HAVE BEEN ENCOURAGING. A COPY OF THE MAST AND MAST RESPONSES OF 153 HOSPITALIZED ALCOHOLICS AND 103 NONALCOHOLIC CONTROLS ARE INCLUDED. /SRIS/
