SHIP POSITION DETERMINING SYSTEMS

Principles of operation of radio, satellite and acoustic navigation systems for ships are reviewed. Considering some of the capabilities and limitations of these newer techniques and giving examples of the performance which can be achieved. A table of representative ship position determining systems gives major features of seven radio systems, three satellite systems and eight acoustic systems.
