Carplus annual survey of car clubs 2011/2012 England and Wales, excluding London

An annual survey of people who use car clubs has been conducted by Carplus since 2007. Car clubs are a form of neighborhood automobile rental, which is considered an alternative to private automobile ownership. This year, survey results have been reported and analyzed for various separate geographic areas - Scotland, England and Wales (excluding London), and London. This report discusses the survey results for England and Wales (excluding London). Survey results indicate that car clubs significantly impact personal automobile ownership. For England and Wales (excluding London), 33% of the 1125 survey responders say they have reduced the number of automobiles in their household, since joining a car club. 26% of survey responders mention that they would have purchased an automobile if they had not joined the car club. 63% of survey responders indicate that they are less likely to purchase an automobile in the next few years, than if they hadn't joined a car club.
