INTERSECTION CAPACITY /IN PORTUGESE/

THIS IS A STUDY OF THE EXISTING METHODS OF CAPACITY AND TIME ANALYSIS THAT ARE USED IN THE DESIGN OF LUMINOUS AND NONLUMINOUS SIGNS FOR INTERSECTIONS. THE EMPIRICAL METHODS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE CYCLES IN TRAFFIC SIGNALS, THE ENGLISH METHOD FOR THE COMPUTATION OF TRAFFIC VOLUMES, AND THE AMERICAN METHOD DESCRIBED IN THE "HIGHWAY CAPACITY MANUAL" ARE DISCUSSED AND SEVERAL EXAMPLES ARE SOLVED USING THESE METHODS AND A GRAPHICAL ANALYSIS DEVELOPED BY JACK E. LEISH. A COMPUTER PROGRAM DEVELOPED AT THE INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORTATION AND TRAFFIC ENGINEERING AT BERKELEY, CAL. WAS EXAMINED WITH A LOCAL ADJUSTMENT FACTOR FOR BRAZILIAN CONDITIONS. MATHEMATICAL SIMULATION WAS USED IN THE STUDY OF SIGNALIZED INTERSECTIONS AND WARRANTS FOR LUMINOUS SIGNS AT INTERSECTIONS. A COMPUTER PROGRAM TO BE APPLIED TO BRAZILIAN PROBLEMS CONCERNING INTERSECTION CAPACITY WAS STUDIED ALONG WITH THE REQUIRED CHANGES AND ADAPTATIONS IN THE EXISTING METHODS. /RRI/
