Stress Evaluation in Concrete Members Using Ultrasonic Propagation Velocity

In this paper, the authors report on the fundamental research to evaluate the stress change in concrete members using ultrasonic propagation velocity. First of all, an elemental experiment was conducted on rectangular columns to identify the relationship between the applied stress and the ultrasonic velocity. Then ultrasonic velocity in a pre-stressed concrete (PC) slab subject to biaxial stress was also measured in two vertical directions. Finally it was found that the velocity had a linear relationship with the applied but its increment due to applied stress was very small.
