THE CITY V THE CAR. NOTTINGHAM AND LEICESTER WEIGHT IN WITH SHORT TERM PROPOSALS

RADIAL ROUTE DEVELOPMENT, AREA TRAFFIC CONTROL (INCLUDING LINKED SIGNALS), BUS PRIORITY, AND IMPROVED PARKING PROVISIONS FORM THE BASIS OF THE LEICESTER TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT PLAN OUTLINED HERE. FIVE ALTERNATIVE DRAFT PROPOSALS FOR THE NOTTINGHAM CENTRAL AREA ARE ALL BASED ON LOOP ROAD SYSTEMS WHICH WILL PREVENT THROUGH TRAFFIC FROM CROSSING THE CITY CENTER. SOME LOOPS WOULD ALLOW NO ON-STREET PARKING, AND OTHER STREETS WOULD BE RESERVED FOR PEDESTRIANS FOR AT LEAST PART OF THE DAY. WIDENED FOOTPATHS AND ROADS FOR BUSES ONLY ARE INCLUDED IN ALL FIVE SCHEMES. /TRRL/
