NOTE ON THE APPLICATION OF K-THEORY TO DIFFUSION PROBLEMS INVOLVING NONLINEAR CHEMICAL REACTIONS

A SIMPLE EXTENSION OF PRANDTL'S MIXING LENGTH THEORY IS DEVELOPED AND USED TO DERIVE A SET OF SUFFICIENT CONDITIONS FOR THE VALIDITY OF THE DIFFUSION EQUATION WHICH IS COMMONLY USED TO MODEL CHEMICALLY REACTIVE POLLUTANTS IN URBAN ATMOSPHERES. IT IS POINTED OUT THAT THESE CONDITIONS ARE VIOLATED IN THE VICINITY OF STRONG, LOCALIZED SOURCES SUCH AS SMOKE-STACKS, HIGHWAYS, ETC. /AUTHOR/
