DECISION ANALYSIS FOR OPTIMAL TEST SEQUENCING

THIS PAPER FOCUSES ON THE PROBLEM OF SEQUENCING THE TESTS TO BE ADMINISTERED TO A PRODUCT, PERSON, OR GROUP. THE WORK "TEST" IS TO BE VIEWED AS VERY GENERAL, AND MAY REFER LITERALLY TO QUALITY CONTROL TESTS, OR TO SEQUENCING THE VARIOUS CHECK-POINTS EXAMINED IN PROCESSING CREDIT CARD APPLICATIONS OR AUTOMOBILE INSPECTION TESTS, AND A MYRIAD OF INDUSTRIAL USES. EACH OF THESE APPLICATIONS EXHIBITS THE CHARACTERISTIC THAT THE SEQUENCING PROBLEM IS FACED ONCE, YET THE BENEFITS ARE REAPED OVER AND OVER AGAIN. BAYESIAN ANALYSIS CAN BE EFFECTIVELY USED TO CONSIDER THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS AND HAS LATELY BEEN APPLIED TO NON-INDUSTRIAL CONTEXTS, SUCH AS MORE EFFECTIVE HIGHWAY SAFETY ALLOCATION. THIS MODEL COMBINES EFFECTS OF COSTS AND FAILURE PROBABILITIES TO DETERMINE THE BEST SEQUENCE. /AUTHOR/
