FREEWAY LANE DROPS
THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS RESEARCH STUDY WERE TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SEVERAL LANE DROP CONFIGURATIONS WITH RESPECT TO SAFETY AND TRAFFIC OPERATIONS, AND TO IDENTIFY THE PREFERRED LANE DROP CONFIGURATIONS AND LOCATIONS. PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE THE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF METHODS FOR MEASURING TRAFFIC OPERATIONS AND SAFETY EFFECTIVENESS OF FREEWAY SITES FROM AERIAL DATA REDUCTION SYSTEM DESIGNED ORIGINALLY FOR RELATIVELY SMOOTH TRAFFIC TO ACCOUNT FOR THE MANEUVERING ENCOUNTERED AT LANE DROPS AND COLLECTION, REDUCTION, AND ANALYSIS OF MORE THAN 90 MIN. OF FILM OF TRAFFIC AT THREE DIFFERENT STUDY SITES.
