Properties of wollastonite and flyash added concrete

Concrete is the material where strength, durability, impermeability and abrasion resistance are required. The cement represents the most expensive component of a concrete mixture. It is, therefore, desirable that the rising cement demand in the world is met by higher rates of utilization of industrial waste and mineral admixtures as supplementary cementing materials. Flyash is the largest industrial waste produced worldwide. Owing to its pozzolanic properties, flyash is used as a replacement for some of the Portland cement content of concrete. Similarly, wollastonite, a calcium meta-silicate mineral (CasiO sub 3), is available near Pali, Sirohi and Udaipur districts in Rajasthan. Flexural strength, mechanical properties along with micro-structure of cement binders reinforced with wollastonite has been studied earlier also. The present investigation has been aimed to determine the influence of wollastonite and flyash on the properties of concrete over a range of water-binder (w/cm) ratio. Strength, absorption and permeability parameters, including compressive, flexural, pulloff strength at 7, 28 and 90 days of concrete containing wollastonite and flyash, were studied.
