2010 Canadian Asphalt Exchange Program (CAEP) - 2010 Summary

This report documents the results of the 2010 Canadian Asphalt Exchange Program (CAEP). Twenty two agencies participated in the 2010 Canadian Asphalt Exchange Program. The exchange provides an opportunity for participants to compare their test results with those of other laboratories in order to provide a mechanism for reviewing and refining existing test procedures. The exchange also provides information to participants on their individual test procedures and equipment. Four types of binder material were tested in the 2010 exchange: a 150-200A asphalt cement; an HF 150S asphalt emulsion; an HF 150P polymer modified asphalt emulsion; and a binder PG 58-28. All participants were given identical material samples to evaluate. The test result analysis was based on the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) E691, Standard Practice for Conducting an Interlaboratory Study to Determine the Precision of a Test Method. This procedure was used to evaluate the repeatability and reproducibility standard deviations for the different test procedures performed in the asphalt exchange. This information was used to determine the 95 percent repeatability and reproducibility limits for each test procedure. The analysis procedure also provided information for each participant to determine if their test results were consistent with those of the other laboratories. // Ce rapport documente les resultats du programme d'echange canadien 2010 sur les bitumes. Vingt deux agences canadiennes ont participe au programme d'echange canadien 2010 sur les bitumes. Le programme d'echange fournit aux participants une occasion de comparer leurs resultats d'essais avec ceux des autres laboratoires a titre de mecanisme de revision et de perfectionnement des procedures d'essais existantes. Il procure aussi aux participants de l'information sur leurs methodes d'essais et leur equipement. Les essais du programme d'echange 2010 ont porte sur quatre types de liants: un bitume 150-200A, une emulsion HF 150S, une emulsion polymere HF 150P et un liant SHRP PG 58-28. Tous les participants ont reçu pour evaluation des echantillons identiques de materiaux. L'analyse des resultats d'essais s'est faite selon la methode ASTM-E691 Pratique standard de realisation d'une etude interlaboratoire pour determiner la precision d'une methode d'essai. Cette procedure a ete utilisee pour evaluer les ecarts types de la repetabilite et de la reproductibilite des differentes methodes d'essais employees dans le programme d'echange sur les bitumes. Cette information a servi a determiner les limites de repetabilite et de reproductibilite a 95 percent de chaque methode d'essai. L'analyse a egalement donne de l'information utilisable par chacun des participants pour determiner si leurs resultats d'essais etaient coherents avec ceux des autres laboratoires.
