Odense's Visionary Traffic and Mobility Plan will Generate a Third More Public Transport Trips by 2025
The municipality of Odense in Denmark recently adopted a master plan for sustainable transportation solutions that is designed to help the municipality meets its goal of carbon dioxide neutrality by 2025. Odense wants to reduce car traffic in the historic city center and increase individual mobility through improved conditions for transit users, pedestrians and cyclists. The plan calls for a network of bicycle lanes, pedestrian walkways and other facilities that offer viable alternatives to driving. Transit ticket prices have been reduced by half to encourage more ridership. A four-lane road will be closed to automobile traffic in the city center and the entire area will be converted into coherent and denser urban space.
