THE AASHO ROAD TEST: REPORT 3-TRAFFIC OPERATIONS AND PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE
A BRIEF DESCRIPTION IS PRESENTED OF THE AASHO ROAD TEST, INCLUDING ITS BACKGROUND AND CONCEPTS, AND THE LOCATION AND LAYOUT OF THE TEST FACILITIES. THE OBJECTIVE, ORGANIZATION AND DUTIES OF THE PROJECT'S OPERATIONS BRANCH ARE OUTLINED. THE CHARACTERISTICS ARE DESCRIBED OF THE TEST VEHICLES, THEIR OPERATING SCHEDULES AND CONTROLS, AND THEIR ACCIDENT RECORD. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE PROCEDURES, POLICIES, AND ORGANIZATION FOR VEHICLE MAINTENANCE. THE SPECIAL CONDITIONS ARE REPORTED OF THE TRAFFIC OPERATIONS OF THE ROAD TEST. THE PURPOSES AND POLICIES ARE OUTLINED WHICH GOVERN MAINTENANCE OF THE TEST PAVEMENTS AND BRIDGES. THE EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS AND METHODS OF MAINTENANCE, AND THE EXTENT OF THE MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS ARE DESCRIBED.
