FORD'S COMPUTERS AID DESIGN OF DRIVER'S REAR VIEW PACKAGE

FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO 111, REQUIRING A MINIMUM REAR MIRROR VIEWING PERFORMANCE, MAKES THE TRADITIONAL MANUAL DRAFTING TECHNIQUES FOR MIRROR CHECK-OUT UNWIELDY. FORD'S 200 COMPUTER PROGRAM, INSIDE MIRROR ORIENTATION, EVALUATES THE INSIDE MIRROR PERFORMANCE. IT MANIPULATES EYE AND MIRROR INPUT DATA TO PREDICT THE RESULTANT VIEW ON A SPECIFIED TARGET PLANE. A SUPPLEMENTARY PROGRAM 240, VIEW PROJECTION, INSERTS THE REAR WINDOW APERTURE AND OBSTRUCTIONS, SUCH AS REAR SEAT PASSENGERS, INTO THE VIEW PATTERN. /RRL/FESR/A/
