POLARIZED VEHICLE LIGHT-NOT JUST A DREAM OF THE FUTURE

THE PROBLEMS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF POLARIZED HEADLAMPS INCLUDE: PROTECTION OF ROAD USERS, THE DRIVERS ABILITY TO COPE WITH A POLARIZED SYSTEM, CONTRAST CHANGE, SENSITIVITY TO DIRT, USE OF PROTECTIVE VISORS, AND REDUCED VISIBILITY WHEN MEETING TRAFFIC. THE ONLY SYSTEM SUPERIOR TO POLARIZED HEADLAMPS IS ROAD LIGHTING, BUT THIS IS MORE EXPENSIVE AND CANNOT BE INSTALLED ON THE ENTIRE ROAD NETWORK. THE GREATEST ADVANTAGE OF POLARIZED HEADLAMPS IS THE IMPROVEMENT IN SIGHT DISTANCE. VISIBILITY ABOVE 100 M ALLOWS SAFE SPEEDS OF ABOUT 100 KM/H, WHILE THE PRESENT VISIBLITY OF 25 TO 50 M DOES NOT REALLY PERMIT SPEEDS HIGHER THAN 40 TO 65 KM/H, NOT EVEN UNDER GOOD ROAD CONDITIONS. /TRRL/
