RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DRIVER LICENSING AND REEXAMINATION

SOME OF THE IMPORTANT CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE: (1) RESEARCH SHOULD BE CONTINUED IN THE AREA OF DRIVER ATTITUDES AND PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS; (2) MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS SHOULD BE MANDATORY; (3) MEDICAL CONDITIONS SUCH AS CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES, EPILEPSY, AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS SHOULD BE CHECKED PERIODICALLY TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE INDIVIDUAL IS PHYSICALLY FIT TO DRIVE; AND (4) THE DETECTION OF ALCOHOL IN PEOPLE INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS OR THE REFUSAL TO TAKE AN ALCOHOL DETECTION TEST SHOULD RESULT IN A DEMERIT FOR THE DRIVER.
