A PARKING & TRAFFIC STUDY FOR COLLEGE PARK

IN ORDER TO EVALUATE THOSE FACTORS AFFECTING BOTH IMMEDIATE AND LONG-RANGE PARKING NEEDS AND TO DEVELOP ALTERNATIVE PLANS FOR MEETING THESE NEEDS, A STUDY WAS CONDUCTED WHICH WAS STRUCTURED IN TWO PHASES. THE PRIMARY PHASE CONSISTED OF A THOUOUGH INVESTIGATION AND ANALYSIS OF THE DEMAND PLACED ON EXISTING PARKING FACILITIES AROUND THE CENTRAL BUSINESS AREA. BOTH PARKING AND PARKER CHARACTERISTICS WERE EVALUATED. THE SECOND PHASE OF THE STUDY ANALYZED THE ALTERNATIVE PARKING PLANS AND STRATEGIES AVAILABLE FOR ACCOMMODATING FUTURE DEMANDS. RECOMMENDATIONS MADE ON THE BASIS OF THE STUDY ARE PRESENTED. PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS AND AREA DESCRIPTIONS ARE DETAILED. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE DATA ACQUISITION PROCEDURES. APPENDICES PRESENT INFORMATION ON PARKING, TRAFFIC SIGNS, SIGNING AND MARKING STANDARDS, AND INCLUDE SECTIONAL MAPS AND A GLOSSARY.
