FACTORS AFFECTING VEHICLE SKIDS: A BASIS FOR WET WEATHER SPEED ZONING
THIS REPORT STUDIES THE AVAILABLE TIRE-ROAD FRICTION AT SELECTED SITES ON WET PAVEMENTS AND THE FRICTION DEMAND FOR TRAFFIC OPERATIONAL MANEUVERS EXPECTED AT THOSE SITES AND DETERMINES THE CRITICAL SPEED AND THE SPEED LIMIT FOR MANEUVERS SUCH AS STOPPING, PASSING, CORNERING, HYDROPLANING, EMERGENCY PATH CORRECTION, ETC. IT ALSO SURVEYS HIGH FREQUENCY SKIDDING ACCIDENT SITES AND RECOMMENDS WET WEATHER SPEED ZONING. /NTIS/
