SPEED/FLOW RELATIONSHIPS ON SUBURBAN MAIN ROADS

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOURNEY SPEED AND FLOW HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED AT SEVERAL SITES ON MAIN ROADS IN SUBURBAN AREAS OF ENGLAND. THE DIFFERENCES OBSERVED HAVE BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO DIFFERENCES IN THE PHYSICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILING AT THE SITES, INCLUDING THE NUMBER OF INTERSECTIONS, THE PROPORTION OF DUAL CARRIAGEWAY, THE ACCESS AVAILABLE TO THE ADJACENT LAND USES, AND THE AMOUNT OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE ADJACENT LAND. THE ANALYSIS DESCRIBED ENABLES PREDICTIONS TO BE MADE OF SPEED/FLOW RELATIONSHIPS ON SUBURBAN MAIN ROADS. /NTIS/
