THE VERTICAL MOTION LATERAL STABILITY OF ROAD VEHICLE TRAINS
THE SEPARATE VERTICAL AND LATERAL EQUATIONS OF MOTION FOR A ROAD VEHICLE TRAIN WITH AN ARBITRARY NUMBER OF COMPONENTS ARE DERIVED. THE EQUATIONS FOR A SIX-COMPONENT TRAIN ARE SELECTED AND REDUCED TO MATRIX FORM. NUMERICAL STUDIES ON THE MODE SHAPES, FREQUENCY AND DAMPING FOR VERTICAL MOTION, AND ON THE LATERAL STABILITY FOR VARYING SPEED, CENTER OF GRAVITY POSITIONS AND NUMBER OF COACHES ARE MADE. A METHOD OF ADAPTING THE EQUATIONS FOR DIFFERENT VEHICLE CONFIGURATIONS IS OUTLINED, AND THE POSSIBILITY IS MENTIONED OF APPLYING THE SYSTEM TO THE MOTION OF TRAINS OF THE A.P.T. (ADVANCED PASSENGER TRAIN) TYPE. /TRRL/
