CAR POOLING IN CONNECTICUT

THIS REPORT SURVEYS THE PRESENT CAR POOLING HABITS OF COMMUTERS IN HARTFORD AND SOME OTHER AREAS IN CONNECTICUT. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CAR POOLING AND COMMUTING DISTANCES, TYPES OF BUSINESS, POPULATION OF THE TOWNS IN WHICH THE COMPANIES ARE SITUATED, THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN THE COMPANIES, WORK SHIFTS, AND DIFFERENT TYPES OF PARKING LOTS ARE EXAMINED. THE RESULTS OF THE ANALYSIS OF DATA COLLECTED FOR THE HARTFORD TRAFFIC STUDY SHOWED THAT CAR POOLING VARIES WITH THE COMMUTING DISTANCE TO THE PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT, AND CAR POOLING VARIES WITH THE TYPE OF BUSINESS ACTIVITY CONDUCTED BY THE COMPANY. THE RESULTS OF THE ANALYSIS OF THE MANUAL COUNTS AT THE ENTRANCES TO PARKING LOTS OF VARIOUS CONCERNS SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE STATE SHOWED THAT CAR POOLING VARIES WITH THE POPULATION OF THE TOWN IN WHICH THE BUSINESS IS LOCATED, WITH THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES, AND WITH THE WORK SHIFT. /DOT/
