Low Carbon, High Growth: Latin American Responses to Climate Change

This publication addresses a number of questions related to the causes and consequences of climate change in the case of Latin America. It is critical for Latin American countries to develop strategies for adapting to the various impacts of climate change, as well as for contributing to global efforts aimed at mitigation. Some of the issues addressed here are as follows: the likely impacts of climate change in the region; which countries and regions will be most affected; what governments can do to tackle the challenges associated with adapting to climate change; and what role Latin American can play in the area of climate change mitigation. Two annexes include information on mitigation potential by country and type of emissions, and potential annual economic impacts of climate change in Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries circa 2080. It is the intention that new information and analysis contained in this publication could help to inform the public policy debate on the issue of climate change in Latin America.
