FORCES AND MOMENTS ON A SURFACE PIERCING PLATE CAUSED BY WAVE AND CURRENTS

This paper is a continuation of previous work done on the evaluation of forces and moments on a flat plate in the presence of waves and currents. Non-dimensional parameters previously derived will be used in evaluating the flow phenomena on the surface piercing plate. The tests were conducted in a specially designed wavetank. The reason for the experiment is to use the test plate as a model for a section of an oil pollution barrier. The final results of this and other experiments, conducted previously and in the future, are to predict the forces and moments on a real oil barrier in operation.
