A DETAILED FORMULATION OF THE MINIMUM INITIAL COST DESIGN PROBLEM FOR SIMPLE SPAN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BOX GIRDER BRIDGES IS PRESENTED, AND THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED BY A NONLINEAR PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE.
