THE EFFECTS OF VARYING LEVELS OF ALCOHOL ON DARK ADAPTATION TIME

THE EFFECT OF ALCOHOL ON THE ABILITY TO DETECT A LOW CONTRAST TARGET UNDER MESOPIC LEVELS OF ILLUMINATION WAS INVESTIGATED. DARK ADAPTATION TIMES WERE OBTAINED FOR EACH OF THREE BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVELS (80, 60, AND 40 MG PERCENT) AND A NORMAL CONDITION. ANALYSIS OF RESPONSE TIMES DURING THE PROCESS OF DARK ADAPTATION (AFTER ALLOWING FOR REACTION TIME) SHOWED SIGNIFICANT IMPAIRMENT UNDER 80 MG PERCENT, WHILE LITTLE OR NO DETERIORATION OCCURRED AT 60 MG PERCENT AND 40 MG PERCENT WHEN COMPARED WITH NORMAL SESSIONS. /AUTHOR/
