An Integrated Model for Ship Routing and Berth Allocation
In this paper the authors present a mathematical model to support joint decisions for container ship routing and container terminal berth allocation. This model is particularly useful for shipping companies that operate container vessels as well as self-owned terminals, where it helps to coordinate the routing, berthing time, and berth assignment of the vessels. Using this model and randomly generated data, the authors conduct computational experiments to investigate the potential cost-saving benefits attainable by the integrated operations.
