Analysis of the regional air passenger transport system in Brazil: some aspects of its evolution and diagnosis
In Brazil, as elsewhere in the world, passenger air transport has been undergoing substantial changes in recent years, as a consequence of several important changes in the regulatory framework, in addition to external factors. The focus of this paper is on the regional aspects of airline passenger traffic in Brazil, based on interviews with some key government authorities and a review of the literature. An overview is provided of the country's regions, as well as a look at the historical evolution of regional air transportation in the country. Also included is a discussion of the recent changes affecting the sector, taking into consideration the regulatory and operational factors at play, especially as they relate to the network of Brazilian cities served by air transport.
