BIOASSAY OF MARINE ANTIFOULANTS-1
Screening of toxicants. As an approach to solving the problem of the fouling of shipbottoms, a biossay, using barnacle larvae for screening potential antifoulants, was developed. The test uses Stage II naupliar barnacle larvae. Populations of about 25 naupli are exposed to a 3% of saturated solution is seawater of the toxicant being assayed. Periodic observations of the number of dead and live nauplii are made, from which a determination is made of the time to kill 50% of the population.
