SAFETY ZONES

PEDESTRIANS SAFETY ISLANDS AND STREET CAR SAFETY ZONES ARE BECOMING INCREASINGLY NECESSARY, ESPECIALLY ON WIDER THOROUGHFARES. HOWEVER, THEY MUST BE ADEQUATELY LIGHTED AND PROPERLY BUILT TO AVOID BEING TRAFFIC HAZARDS. PRACTICALLY ALL COLLISIONS AT WELL LIGHTED ZONES ARE THE FAULT OF RECKLESS OR INTOXICATED DRIVERS AND NOT CAUSED BY THE ZONE ITSELF. A NUMBER OF BOTH GOOD AND BAD INSTALLATIONS ARE DESCRIBED. /AUTHOR/
