STRUCTURAL OPTIMIZATION OF A WEB FRAME
The objective of this study is to develop a DOUBLE ITERATION procedure, to increase the efficiency of the STRESS-RATIO METHOD in finding the fully-stressed design for a geometrically determinate structure. The technique is applied to the problem of minimizing the weight of a Transverse Web Frame, subject to six loading conditions. A satisfactory design weighing 39.3% less than the original structure was produced after four primary iterations.
