PROBALISTIC MODELS FOR STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF SEA VEHICLES

The application of the structural reliability theory in the safety analysis of ship structures is described. Three probabilistic models are presented, in which both loads and strength are treated as random variables. In the first, the safety analysis for the entire ship life is investigated. In the second, a short period of time is considered. In the third, no exact and specific distributions for the random variables involved are considered. The application of the above models on the safety analysis of a typical naval frigate is illustrated.
