A SHORT HISTORY OF MAN'S ATTEMPTS TO MOVE THROUGH SNOW

A BRIEF HISTORY IS PRESENTED OF SNOW REMOVAL TECHNIQUES FOR RAILROADS AND CITIES. BETWEEN 1920 AND 1929 SNOW REMOVAL TECHNOLOGY ADVANCED RAPIDLY AIDED BY THE PASSAGE OF THE FEDERAL-AID ROAD ACT IN 1916 AND OTHER LEGISLATION IN 1921 REQUIRING A FEDERAL-AID SYSTEM. SNOW REMOVAL METHODS MENTIONED ARE: LESLIE-TYPE ROTARY SNOWPLOW, STRAIGHT BLADE SNOWPLOW, DISPLACEMENT SNOWPLOW, FRONT-TYPE ROTARY SNOWPLOW, LATERAL-TYPE ROTARY SNOWPLOW, SALT, AND CHLORIDE- TREATED SAND.
