SALVAGING OLD PAVEMENTS BY RESURFACING
THE COMMITTEE REPORT AT THE PREVIOUS ANNUAL MEETING PROPOSED A FOUR-PHASE APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM. DURING THE ENSUING YEAR EMPHASIS WAS PLACED ON THE FIRST TWO PHASES, SO THAT UPON COMPLETION OF THIS RESEARCH A DEPARTMENT WOULD BE ABLE TO DETERMINE WHETHER A PAVEMENT SHOULD BE RESURFACED AND KNOW WHAT METHODS WERE AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR AND WIDENING. THE REPORT ON PHASE I---STUDY OF THE EXISTING PAVEMENT---INCLUDES HISTORY, CONDITION SURVEY, HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL ALIGNMENT, AND TRAFFIC FORECAST. THAT ON PHASE II---PREPARATION OF THE OLD PAVEMENT--INCLUDES REPAIR AND WIDENING OF RIGID AND FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS.
